Why Is Being IICRC Certified Important In The Restoration Field?

7/20/2020 (Permalink)

The IICRC plays a significant role in training and ensuring that all of their certified firm's work is consistent.

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) plays a significant role here at SERVPRO of South Cobb. Owner Rick Northen leads the way in higher education by becoming the first certified technician in the early 2000s.

The IICRC and its guidelines guide much of the work done to address water damage, mold containment, and cleaning materials. Let's make it clear; the IICRC does not have the power to create mandatory regulations. Rick is the one who holds our employees to a higher standard here at SERVPRO of South Cobb.

The IICRC organization was founded in 1972. Since then, they have worked to improve the cleaning and restoration industry's voluntary standards to benefit consumers, and the quality of cleaning a business performs. These standards are continuously developed over time with input from professionals across North America.

The Quality of Training

In Austell, Georgia, a quality disaster mitigation company must keep up with the evolving standards of cleaning and restoration. SERVPRO technicians all must go to an approved IICRC training school to be awarded and learn more about specific industry techniques and standards.

Classes operate year-round in the following categories:

  • Water restoration
  • Fire restoration
  • Upholstery cleaning
  • Carpet cleaning
  • Applied structural drying

Trained technicians must prove that they can perform work to the highest standards in the industry. To be a certified technician ensures the work is going to be completed at a high-level, but it also provides the technician with the best safety practices.

The Importance of Continued Education

The IICRC is known to promote an ongoing learning process, and SERVPRO of South Cobb embraces continued education for its employees and franchises. When a new franchise is developed, the owner must take a 15-day course at a corporate training facility covering topics such as mold mitigation and carpet and upholstery cleaning. Restoration technicians also have access to self-paced learning through the IICRC that involves videos and testing.

Here at SERVPRO of South Cobb, we understand that every building is different and requires unique drying and cleaning solutions. Our certified technicians know the best cleaning methods and materials for a variety of situations. When a new employee comes to work at SERVPRO, we have them work with a veteran employee for a few months before allowing them to perform work independently. We have set this protocol to ensure that we continue our high standard of work that we proudly stand behind.

SERVPRO Classes

SERVPRO holds classes for insurance agents, insurance adjusters, and property management professionals. The classes that we offer are to help teach the basics of the restoration and what to do when disasters strike. The structure of our programs is offered at our office or a convenient location for the majority of registered attendees.
